8-16 November 2012 : Festival Jazz à l’Ouest (France, Brittany)

In Festivals on October 31, 2012 at 9:48 am

Dear friends,

A jazz festival in the celtic part of France (Ille-et-Vilaine) will take place from 8 until 16 November 2012. For those who like the “broken-Bollie Holiday’s style”  voice of Madeleine Peyroux or the Pygmee Rapp of Paco Sery, Rennes will be the place to be !

Jazz à l’Ouest festival exists for more than 20 years. Great program and great place to stay !

Enjoy,

Céline

(see the precedent post for a small one day festival nearby : Plouer’ in jazz)

03/11/2012: Festival Plouër’ in Jazz (France, Brittany)

In Festivals on October 31, 2012 at 9:25 am

Dear friends,

It’s my pleasure to announce you that the 4th edition of Plouër’in Jazz will take place on November 3th 2012 (4 pm until 1 am).

It’s a one day festival in Brittany (Côtes d’Armor), in one of the most beautiful wild landscapes that you can find in France. This region is known for celtic music but, sometimes, jazz has the preference !

Do not hesitate to stay for a week because few days later another Jazz festival will take place in Rennes (see post : 8-16 November 2012 : Festival Jazz à l’Ouest).

I’m sure you will enjoy the warmth of the celtic atmosphere mixed with excellent jazz music !

Great site about jazz clubs all over the world: Jazz Clubs Worldwide

In jazz, Jazz blogs, Websites for promotion on October 11, 2012 at 8:30 am

Jazz Clubs Worldwide is a site where more than three thousand worldwide jazz clubs are listed. More than one hundred countries. Thirty eight American States. You find also some information about agents and promoters, Jazz festivals, Jazz blogs, Jazz societies, record labels, Jazz magazines and much more…

If you want to share something, you can submit information about new clubs, dates …

The purpose of this site is to present (if it’s possible) an exhaustive offer of jazz clubs worldwide. The purpose of our blog is a little bit different because it is based on the experience of our musicians and jazz fans friends. I only add on our blog the clubs which respect 3 conditions : 1- Musicians are warm welcomed, they are well paid or they get the opportunity to make an efficient network. 2- The public must feel like home and is not supposed to pay extra bills. The atmosphere has to be great as it was in the house of a great friend who invites you for a fantastic moment. 3- The program has to be of a high quality even if some musicians are young without a big experience. Music has to be made by real musicians, professional or not but who are dedicated to this art.

I’m sure that with this site, you will find some pearls! So if you live a great experience in one of these jazz clubs, tell me. If you know a jazz club which is not on the site of Jazz Clubs Worldwide, share it !

Do not hesitate to click on :

Enjoy your day,

African, South American and Asian jazz clubs

In Few written notes on October 5, 2012 at 7:29 am

Dear friends all around the world,

I see that people from Algeria, Kenya, South Africa, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Mexico, Honduras,… and so many other countries are looking at this blog to discover new jazz clubs. If you know some good places, hidden, small, big, well known or new ones, share your knowledge with us ! To be on the list, the jazz club you propose has first of all to respect musicians, because they are the soul of jazz, most of the time they dedicate their life to this music. Then… this jazz club, even if it’s a modest one, has to deliver a high quality of music. Last but not least, the public must feel like home.

When you indicate some venues,  I send some of my friends (spies 🙂 ) in these jazz clubs to see if the quality is there. If it’s OK, I add these new names on the lists.

It’s time to promote jazz of your country, city or jazz clubs of friends!

LET’S SHARE !

A rising star : Igor Gehenot, the Belgian jazz pianist who conquers the world

In Artist of the Month on October 4, 2012 at 10:55 pm

Dear friends,

Do not think that too young is not enough ! Here is a rising star. I saw him one night in the Sounds, a jazz club in Brussels, where young artists can prove their talent. The evening was great but when this young man jumped on the scene, everybody was under a WAOW effect. His style is powerful, limpid, incredibly precise and free. Believe me, he is the jazz rising star!

Born in 1989, he already won several awards, amongst others the first price for young talent at the Comblain Festival performing with the Metropolitan Quartet, the Sabam Jazz Award for young talents and “Lg Jazz Collective” at the Leffe Jazz Nights 2012 contest.

He learned to play with great jazz men like Dado Moroni, Jozef Dumoulin, Fabian Fiorini, Eric Legnini, Jean-Louis Rassinfosse and the French pianist Baptiste Trotignon.

Today he performs with drummer Teun Verbruggen and bass player Sam Gerstmans. Gerstmans, who excels at harmonics, is the stabilizing factor. Drummer Teun Verbruggen, who has been playing with the Jef Neve trio for several years, contributes to colourful rhythms and a different, innovative sound. Their first album ‘Road Story’  is in store since spring 2012 . And now… the world opens his arms to this young guy ! Chile is welcoming him in Valdivia and Santiago.

Have a look at his Tour dates :

If you want to see him, you have 3 solutions : take some holidays in Chile or come in Belgium or ask to the jazz club next door to invite him !
