Falling in love with the voice of Chrystel Wautier

In Artist of the Month, Few written notes, jazz on March 3, 2016 at 11:55 am

Dear friends,

Spring is the period if the year to fall in love… with Chrystel Wautier. If you don’t know her, I will try to tell you all you need :-).

You know, sometimes you hear warm and soft voices and you can’t resist, that was so the first time I met Chrystel Wautier. This Belgian jazz singer is a model for those you sing jazz. Listen to “born to be blue” and you will feel a voice put on the right tempo on the right way, with the right inflections. Listen to this version here.

We are lucky, very lucky because she has released on February 19th 2016 a new CD that brings fresh air! Listen to “Before a song” and you will feel spring around you! Looking at the mirror, putting some mascara on your eyelashes, being happy in the street…is not what you think :-).  Find the answer in the song “You make me feel so good“.

Chrystel got the first price at the Jazz Conservatory of Brussels in 2002, she worked with the most famous Belgian Jazz musicians and now she crosses borders!

If you want a last whisper in your ears, listen to this !

Her website is in French but if you need a translation, ask me 🙂

New jazz club in Brussels (Belgium): The BRAVO!!!

In Few written notes, Jazz Clubs on April 22, 2014 at 10:19 pm

Dear friends,

It’s my pleasure to announce you the opening of a great jazz place in Brussels (Belgium). Some Belgian jazz musicians told me how great it was to play in this place because they are considered as the quintessence of the magic of this club.

I only found the facebook page : https://www.facebook.com/bravobxl but you can also find some elements on this page too (in French): http://www.brusselslife.be/fr/adresse/bravo

The jazz club is located in the underground and seems to be terrific. I promise to visit this place as soon as possible :-).

The BRAVO

7,  Rue d’Alost – 1000 Brussels (Belgium)

Enjoy !

The strange sounds of Sophie Tassignon and Peter Van Huffel

In Artist of the Month, Few written notes, Jazz Clubs, Jazz Singers of the month on February 13, 2014 at 10:44 am

Dear friends,

For those who really like music without borders, in danger, deconstructed and recomposed to try some new sounds, please become fan of Sophie Tassignon and Peter Van Huffel. Sophie is well known for her impressive solos and improvisations that break the codes.

Their new CD “House of Mirrors” is composed by <<a myriad of tones and timbres, multiplied, fragmented, and re-sequenced like some devil’s DNA. Peter Van Huffel and Sophie Tassignon’s creations move through the nexus of centuries-old traditions and spur-of-the-moment impulse.  Within, there’s jazz, there’s the 20th century chamber music of Schoenberg and Webern, and the contrapuntal free improv of Bailey, Parker, and von Schlippenbach. The old stones in this garden speak of long-lost Eastern European folk tunes, the Weimar cabaret of Weill and Brecht, and of the tales of a forest canopy and the burrowing creatures beneath>>- Dave Wayne (Santa Fe, NM, USA)

HouseOfMirrors_Cover

This new CD is the result of the art of great musicians:

Sophie Tassignon (B) – voice
Peter Van Huffel (CAN) – clarinet, alto & soprano saxophones

Julie Sassoon (UK) – piano
Miles Perkin (CAN) – bass

Have a look at this link on YouTube but be prepared to hear something new :-).

Enjoy and discover,

Céline

P.S.: If you travel and stop in Brussels on March 13, you will have the immense pleasure to listen to Sophie and her friend Suzanne singing on folk atmosphere. They will be at the Music village presenting “Folk Tassignon“.
