Incredible Trumpet Player : Andre Heuvelman (NL)

In Artist of the Month, jazz on May 30, 2013 at 10:16 am

Dear friends,

It’s my pleasure to let you discover a Dutch trumpet player: Andre Heuvelman.

He has a real sensibility and explore life through his breath. Being young, André wanted to be normal, not handicapped by his shorter left arm. He wanted to play the trumpet, but doctors told him he should wear a brace to support the heavy instrument. “No way!”, he said, he wanted to be normal. Instead he went wind-surfing, making his arm so strong he could do without the brace. Windsurfing made him the great musician he now is, simply by not being afraid of the water and the wind.

But I don’t want to present him has a handicapped but as a GREAT musician. That’s why I’m very happy to let you listen to his story (from the beginning until mn 4) but above all to his art from mn 4 to the end of this video.

Breaking news : album release of Sarah Letor on May 13th 2013 and private showcase on May 17th 2013 !!

In Artist of the Month, jazz, Jazz Singers of the month on May 4, 2013 at 7:54 pm

Dear friends,

If some jazz tunes/songs are simply perfect, I have to share them with you ! I have had the pleasure to see a concert of Sarah Letor, what a revelation ! This Belgian artist proposes us plenty of jazz songs in different styles. Two of them are “Again” and “Sitting on the white cloud”. These little precious songs should certainly become the next jazz standards and should be an excellent music for a fragrance or be used for marketing. Beside both of them, you can find the bluesy/soul “Your home” or  a New Orleans style with “Whenever”.

This second album is an incredible source of inspiration. Sarah looks like a Betty Boop, big smile, generous, happy and hard worker.

Listen and enjoy !

A rising star : Igor Gehenot, the Belgian jazz pianist who conquers the world

In Artist of the Month on October 4, 2012 at 10:55 pm

Dear friends,

Do not think that too young is not enough ! Here is a rising star. I saw him one night in the Sounds, a jazz club in Brussels, where young artists can prove their talent. The evening was great but when this young man jumped on the scene, everybody was under a WAOW effect. His style is powerful, limpid, incredibly precise and free. Believe me, he is the jazz rising star!

Born in 1989, he already won several awards, amongst others the first price for young talent at the Comblain Festival performing with the Metropolitan Quartet, the Sabam Jazz Award for young talents and “Lg Jazz Collective” at the Leffe Jazz Nights 2012 contest.

He learned to play with great jazz men like Dado Moroni, Jozef Dumoulin, Fabian Fiorini, Eric Legnini, Jean-Louis Rassinfosse and the French pianist Baptiste Trotignon.

Today he performs with drummer Teun Verbruggen and bass player Sam Gerstmans. Gerstmans, who excels at harmonics, is the stabilizing factor. Drummer Teun Verbruggen, who has been playing with the Jef Neve trio for several years, contributes to colourful rhythms and a different, innovative sound. Their first album ‘Road Story’  is in store since spring 2012 . And now… the world opens his arms to this young guy ! Chile is welcoming him in Valdivia and Santiago.

Have a look at his Tour dates :

If you want to see him, you have 3 solutions : take some holidays in Chile or come in Belgium or ask to the jazz club next door to invite him !

Enjoy !

New band : Sallma’s Moles… when impro meets great art !

In Artist of the Month, jazz on May 2, 2012 at 7:19 am
May is soon ringing its spring tones and that’s when I’m inviting you
to discover a brand new group I have the pleasure to be part of:
Sallma’s Moles

Sallma’s Moles came into existance when Ludovica Burtone (IT), Sarah Klenes (BE), Matiss Cudars (LET) and Lennart Heyndels (BE) met last year during the Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music of Banff, Canada. Those four musicians from 3 different parts of Europe get together to make their own music inspired by their different backgrounds: a mixture of jazz, folk, chanson, classical and pop music. Pour these different flavors into a musical pan where improvisation is a guest results in a joyfull “delice” for the ear. First in Belgium!

Moles-mum’s and dad’s:
Ludovica Burtone  violin
Sarah Klenes  voice
Matiss Cudars  el.guitar
Lennart Heyndels  double bass
Their nests:
1 May at Fonograf, 20h30, Brussels (Belgium)
3 May at l’An Vert, 20h30, Liège (Belgium)
4 May at la Compilothèque, 20h30, quai des péniches 50, 1000 Brussels (Belgium)
9 mai au Cercle des Voyageurs, 20h30, Brussels

How to combine traditional music and jazz ? Sabin Todorov has the answer !

In his last CD release, the Todorov trio plays with a vocal quartet, the Bulgarka junior quartet.

Sabin Todorov was born in 1966 in the town of Burgas, Bulgaria.
He graduated from Sofia Conservatory, in the Department of Classical Music Theory.
In 1997 he arrived in Belgium and continued his education at the Royal Conservatoire in Brussels.
He graduated in June 2004, specialising in jazz piano.
Todorov formed the trio with Sal la Rocca on bass and Lionel Beuvens on drums in 2002, with the idea of implementing a musical project that combines modern jazz and rhythms with melodies from the treasure house of Bulgarian folklore.
